The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. The front of the case has a small central lens surrounded by numbers which originally would have blue enamel infill, over the years quite a lot of this has come out. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the three covers for London (import mark), 1919 with an importer's mark of JJH believed to be the watch wholesalers Joseph and John Hargreaves. The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a little unevenness. Their excellent reputation for quality meant that by 1910, Tavannes / Cyma were one of the largest Swiss watch manufacturers in existence. Sandoz used the most modern of manufacturing processes and produced very high quality time-pieces, trademarked as Tavannes, Cyma and Cyma Tavannes. The Cyma name was officially registered in 1903.

In 1892 they decided to go into partnership with Frédéric Henri Sandoz, owner of Henri Sandoz et Cie. The movement has a patent date of, this relates to a patent in the name of Sandoz.Ĭyma was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Theodore Schwob, in 1862. The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement, identified as a Cyma / Tavannes, which is working nicely. Antique silver Tavannes half hunter pocket watch.
